Why take a practice exam?
With a practice exam you test whether you are ready for the real basic exam. This website has one complete practice exam: it covers Knowledge of Dutch Society. For Reading you can practise with the same kind of questions as in the exam; practice exams for Reading are on the way. For Speaking, a practice exam on a website is not possible — we explain below why.
Our questions, not the official ones
The practice exam here is ours, with our own questions — these are not official exam questions. The form and the level resemble the real exam, so you know what to expect.
DUO itself has official practice exams for all three parts, including Speaking and Reading. You will find them at naarnederland.nl. For a complete picture, do those alongside.
KNS practice exam
Our practice exam draws 30 questions from the set of 100, so you get a different exam every time. From 21 correct answers you would pass. Afterwards you see your result and all your mistakes with the right answer next to them. Below you can already do ten questions without an account; the full exam sits behind a free account, so that your result is kept.

Reading: the same form as in the exam
In the Reading part of the exam you get short Dutch texts with multiple choice questions about them. The reading questions in our lessons have exactly that form and that level: a text of a few sentences, and questions you can only answer by reading it. Below are two, from lessons 2 and 3.

A full practice exam for Reading does not exist yet. It is on the way.
Speaking: no practice exam, and that is deliberate
For Speaking we cannot make an honest practice exam. Judging whether someone understands you takes a human; a computer cannot assess spoken language reliably enough to give you a result on it. An exercise that tells you that you passed while nobody understood you does not help — it gives you false confidence right before your exam. What does work is practising with someone who speaks Dutch.
